GREENOCK schoolchildren are preparing to set sail on an exciting journey to Northern Ireland for a maritime trip down memory lane.

The primary five pupils at Ardgowan Primary have been offered the chance to visit Titanic Belfast — the world’s largest attraction dedicated to the ill-fated liner.

Head teacher Alison McLellan, who will accompany the children alongside their class teacher Lorraine Gribbon, said it’s the perfect opportunity to bring learning to life.

She said: “Both of our primary five classes have been learning about Titanic and it’s amazing story, so this will bring that home to them.

“Fifty pupils across the classes have been offered the chance to go and they are all really excited about it.

“We also hope to open up the trip to interested parents.”

Mrs McLellan said she has been inundated with queries from other schools about their trip.

She added: “It’s amazing how many other schools have contacted us to find out more about our visit.

“They are keen to follow in our footsteps and take their children to Titanic Belfast.”

During their voyage, the children will explore the world-famous exhibition, which features nine interactive galleries.

Housed in an iconic, six-floor building, the state-of-the-art visitor experience tells the story of the Titanic, from her conception in Belfast in the early 1900s, through her construction and launch to her famous maiden voyage and subsequent place in history. Their one-day trip will take place on Friday April 28.
