A FURIOUS motorist claims his sports car was damaged by a car wash — and is demanding compensation.

Greenock man Peter Beaton says his Mazda 6 was scratched after going through the machine at the BP Imperial petrol station in Regent Street earlier this month.

The 47-year-old says the damage, which includes scratches on the roof and door, will cost him about £300 to repair.

He has contacted car wash bosses about the situation but says they have refused to accept responsibility.

Peter, who lives in Quarrier Street, said: “I’m really annoyed about it. I want them to pay for the repairs.

“Why should I be out of pocket?

“My car is my pride and joy and I keep it in immaculate condition.

“I have a guy who comes and cleans it every Sunday, but because the weather was so bad I decided to put it through the car wash as the following day I was taking my car to get tinted windows fitted.

“I’m regretting that now and will never use any automated car wash again.”

Peter says he used the service before discovering scratches on the roof and door of his car the following day.

He said: “I was taken aback when the guys fitting the windows asked me what happened to my car.

“I couldn’t believe it when I saw all the marks and scratches.”
Peter said he took his Mazda to a body repair specialist, who has quoted £300 for the repairs.

He said: “As soon as they looked at the scratches they said it had been caused by a car wash.

“They told me that you can tell that the scratches are from the bristles of the big brushes as they are all equal distance apart and are not just random scratches.”

Peter said he has complained to MRH Retail, who run the petrol station, but to no avail.

He said: “I got an email back from them this week saying that they are not responsible.

“I’m going to see a lawyer now.”

The Tele spoke to MRH Retail about the situation and also emailed the company on their request but had received no response as we went to press.
