ACCLAIMED actor David Hayman is preparing for a role reversal in Greenock tomorrow night – taking orders from his son.

The actor and director is currently starring in new play ‘The Cause of Thunder’, which is on at the Beacon Arts Centre.

But it will be his son and namesake David Hayman Jnr who will be dishing out the orders from the director’s chair.

The play, written by Chris Dolan, is a direct follow-up to the successful Edinburgh Fringe show ‘The Pitiless Storm’, which looked at the struggles old-school trade union man Bob Cunningham had with the new political realities –and with his own long-held beliefs.

The Cause of Thunder incorporates developments of late, from Brexit to Trump and the refugee crisis to the rise of Jeremy Corbyn.

Now Cunningham is wondering about retirement, which gives one of life’s consummate raconteurs plenty to chew over.

In the leading role is Scottish TV and stage royalty in Hayman Snr, who is also currently starring in hit BBC One series Taboo alongside actor Tom Hardy, aka Bane from the Batman Dark Knight Rises film.

From serious drama to documentaries, Hayman has just about done it all in his distinguished career and he is also passionate about helping others through his Glasgow-based charity Spirit Aid, which he set up 16 years ago.

It gives humanitarian aid to children suffering from the effects of war, poverty and lack of opportunity everywhere from the Middle East, Malawi and Afghanistan to back home in Scotland.

He takes to the stage at the Beacon tomorrow night at 7.30pm. For tickets and more information visit www.beaconartscentre.co.uk or call the box office on 723723.
