MEMBERS of a grassroots community project met the First Minister at a special event to empower women.

Ladies from the Wevolution movement, which is growing fast locally, took part in a celebration of women at the Scottish Parliament.

They listened to Nicola Sturgeon, refugee-turned-political activist Rosa Salih, Veronica Fernandez Mendes, UNI Global Union and Lorna Hood, former moderator of Church of Scotland and comedian Susan Morrison.

Co-ordinator Marion Morrison said: “The day itself is one that some of the women will never forget.  Being able to see the First Minister in person was extremely inspirational.

“This is the first time some of the women had been inside the Scottish Parliament building in Edinburgh.”

Inverclyde’s Wevolution hub has gone from strength to strength in only two years.

There are a number of self-reliant groups set up locally creating goods, putting on events and helping one another.

They then plough the money back into their group to support one another.
