A THRILLED couple are celebrating the birth of their miracle twins and the family they feared they would never have.

Greenock couple Jenn and Scott McClafferty are overjoyed after welcoming Sonny and Luther into the world almost four weeks ago.

Both boys and their big brothers Urban, four, and seven-year-old Caleb were born with the help of fertility treatment.

Jenn, 34, of Fox Street, said: “We had been trying for a family for a while but with no success.

“Then I went for tests and was told that my fallopian tubes were blocked.

“I was 25 when I found out I couldn’t have children.

“I was a nursery nurse for 15 years and it was quite hard knowing that it would never happen.”

The only route open to the couple was IVF and fortunately this has proved a great success.

They were successful straight away to have Caleb and three years later Urban, but they also had two failed attempts before having the twins.

Jenn said: “The first time I overstimulated my ovaries and I ended up in hospital.

“There was a lot of pressure with the first baby but once we had him, we knew we had a child anyway, no matter what happened.”

The couple had initially considered adoption and even looked into going to China but they found that was going to cost £10,000 there were age limits to take into account.

They eventually signed up for private treatment at the Glasgow Centre for Reproductive Medicine to avoid the NHS waiting list and estimate they have spent a total of around £15,000 on treatment.

Putting the figure in perspective, Jenn said: “People would spend that on a car or holidays.

“It’s given us a family we never thought we would have.

“I think I would have made myself bankrupt trying to get pregnant.

“The boys’ older brothers dote on the twins and they have lots of nieces, nephews and aunties.”

Jenn is doing her bit to help childless couples by donating her eggs.

She is also running a bump bank — a clothes swap for expectant mothers.

This can be accessed through her Facebook page and donations can be dropped off to Toerags in Gourock or at Inverclyde MP Ronnie Cowan’s office in Crawfurd Street.
