AN OLD Greenock church which has been used as a storage facility for some time has been put up for sale.

The former place of worship in West Shaw Street, which dates back to the early 1900s, is being marketed by DM Hall Chartered Surveyors and could potentially be transformed into flats.

They are hoping to attract developers interested in giving the building a new lease of life, but are remaining tight-lipped about an asking price.

The vendors describe the building as ‘ideal for businesses or housing’ subject to relevant planning approval from the council.

They said: “The property has been used as a store for a number of years but we believe it could be suitable for commercial or residential uses subject to obtaining the necessary consents.”

The building, which is near Homebase, was originally the ‘Martyrs Free Presbyterian Church’.

It retains traditional ornate glazing and has a single storey extension.

Internally, the former church retains the first floor balcony over the main church area with ancillary accommodation in the extension.

It’s unclear what it could fetch as it is being advertised as ‘price on application’.

Nobody from DM Hall responded to our enquiry.

If a deal can be agreed the building would be the latest former church in Greenock to be converted in recent years for alternative use.
