MUSIC fans will enjoy a unique treat this weekend when The Johnny Cash Roadshow rolls into Greenock.

The toe tapping, knee clapping Johnny Cash marathon will raise the roof off the Beacon Arts Centre on Saturday night.

Endorsed by the Cash family, the Johnny Cash Roadshow is the leading tribute to the popular musician and features singer songwriter Clive John as the Man in Black.

Speaking to the Tele, Clive said he is looking forward to performing at the local venue.

He said: “I’ve never been to Greenock before so I’m looking forward to it.

“It’s going to be a great night I’m sure.”

Clive says the show will take audiences from the 1950’s right up to 2002.

All the greatest hits are included such as ‘Ring of Fire’, ‘Walk the Line’ as well as the Johnny and June duets ‘Jackson’, ‘Long Legged Guitar Pickin’ Man’ and so many more, all the while accompanied by an amazing video back drop with evocative images and shots from Johnny Cash’s life.

Clive added: “The show features everything through Johnny Cash’s career from the first hits through to the fifties and sixties and some of the songs from the prison shows in 1968 and 1969.

“Some of the funnier songs also appear in the show such as ‘One Piece At A Time’ and ‘A Boy Named Sue’ and one of two songs from the eighties.

“We try to do all the decades and one or two from the last album.

“So over the course of the evening we will do close to 40 songs.

“The show is more of a production and celebration of Johnny Cash than a typical tribute act.”

Clive, who is a singer/songwriter based in Malvern, Worcestershire, said he was brought up listening to Johnny Cash.

He said: “I’ve always been a musician and songwriter for years and released seven albums.

“My mum’s Irish and she brought me up on Johnny Cash.

“He was always there in the background.

“I was re-introduced to Johnny Cash when I was about 30.

“A friend of mine sadly passed away from a brain tumour in 2005, he was only 28.

“Six months before he passed away, he gave me a Johnny Cash album and he told me to learn it as he thought that it would really suit me.

“So I put it on and I absolutely loved it.”

Since then, Clive and the ‘Johnny Cash Roadshow’ have performed at numerous festivals around the world, sharing the stage with multi-platinum selling artists such as Matt Bianco, Joe Satriani, Elvis Costello, Seasick Steve and Jeff Beck among others.

The roadshow has also been endorsed by the Cash family including Johnny Cash’s daughter Rosanne Cash and his granddaughter Caitlin Crowell.

Clive added: “It’s nice to get those endorsements.”

The show is at the Beacon Arts Centre on Saturday night at 7.30pm.

Tickets are £20 and to book go to the website www.beaconartscentre.co.uk or phone 723723.
