CALLS have been made for ‘sickening’ Nazi graffiti to be immediately removed from a building in Greenock.
Mindless yobs have caused outrage by daubing a swastika on the side of a tenement block in Broomhill.
It is understood the morons struck when scaffolding was erected to remove two chimney breasts from the building in Prospecthill Street.
Resident John Harkins, 32, said: “It’s kids being stupid.
“I don’t think they realise what they putting up and what it stands for.
“It’s an eyesore.
“It was be nice if the factors could remove it.”
A neighbour, who didn’t want to be named, added: “It’s just nasty.
“I’m old enough to remember what happened during the war.”
People who live in an adjacent block in Prospecthill View have also condemned the graffiti.
Campbell Fleming, 74, said: “I find it offensive, there’s no other way to describe it.
“It shouldn’t be there, workmen have been out and they noticed it but nobody seems to be doing anything about it.”
Another elderly lady, who asked not to be named, said the people behind the attack were ‘stupid’ and appealed for help to have the sign – which is painted the wrong way round – removed.
She added: “I remember the war and my father was in the army. Residents can’t do anything about it, it’s too high up on the wall.”
The Telegraph yesterday contacted the factors for the building, Morison and Walker, who said they would ‘get back to us’.
