POLICE have named the woman whose body was found in a Port Glasgow flat last week - and say they still don't know what happened to her.

Karen Young, 47, was discovered in a property in Kelburn Terrace on Friday, with police called to the scene of the grim find around 1pm.

A post-mortem examination has now been completed and relatives informed, but detectives say the mum's death is still being treated as unexplained.

Officers are now appealing for information as they try to understand what happened to Karen.

She was last seen by her son at her home address in Kilmacolm around 3.15pm last Thursday.

Detective Inspector Grant Macleod from Police Scotland’s Major Investigation Teams said: “Extensive enquiries are under way to establish Karen’s movements between when she was last seen by her son and when she was found dead on Friday afternoon.

“Officers have also managed to establish that a woman, quite possibly Karen, was seen entering the flat in Kelburn Terrace around 0830 hours on Friday morning.

“It is absolutely imperative that we account for Karen’s movements leading up to her death, which is currently being treated as unexplained, and members of the local community could prove vital in providing answers for her family.

“If you saw Karen at any point between 1515 hours on Thursday and 1315 hours on Friday please get in touch to help us paint a picture of where she had been and who she had spoken to."

Anyone with information is asked to contact officers from the Major Investigation Teams based at Govan via 101 and quote incident number 1616 of the 9th June.
