A DOUBLE-bill of work by youngsters from a Greenock performing arts club will hit the stage next week.

Members of the Beacon Youth Theatre (BYT) and Beacon Young Company (BYC) will star in ‘Threads’ and ‘How to Save the World...ish’ at the waterfront venue on Tuesday.

Over the last year they have been working closely with emerging director Nicholas Barton-Wines on the productions and now they are all set to showcase their talents.

Laura Pearce, the Beacon’s learning officer, said: “Nick has really encouraged the young people to collaborate with him and, as a result, they have created two impressive performances.”

The senior members of BYT are at key stages in their education - some are about to pick their subjects or in the midst of sitting their exams - whilst others are making decisions about going to college or university. ‘Threads’ ties in with that as it has been developed by informal conversations held during weekly sessions and explores how the choices people make determine the fate of their own lives and of others.

Meanwhile, ‘How To Save The World...ish’ is a fast-paced storytelling piece, which offers the magic of childhood tales mixed with grown up responsibility.

Director Nicholas said: “I have been overwhelmed with the generosity and enthusiasm of the young adults I have made the show with.

“Their creativity is a real asset to Inverclyde and I’m excited to see what they achieve in the coming years.

“I would like to thank the Beacon Arts Centre team for their support throughout this project.”
