A GREENOCK restaurant which shut down nearly nine months ago is set to re-open —with up to 14 jobs being served up.

The former Morgans on West Blackhall Street closed suddenly in October last year and has lain empty since.

But bosses from Greenock-based WBI Group, which owns businesses including Word Up nightclub, have bought the premises.

The name is set to change but it will continue as a restaurant with highly-respected cook Tony Reid, formerly of The Scullery in Gourock, appointed as head chef.

Bosses are currently finalising the new name, which they hope to reveal soon.

Work to refurbish the prominent town centre premises is nearing completion.

Alex McGilp, operations director of WBI Group, said: “We aim to serve fresh, creative, contemporary food in a relaxed and non-pretentious atmosphere.

“I have enlisted the talents of head chef Tony Reid, formerly of The Scullery in Gourock, and am in the process of assembling a team of talented, enthusiastic and articulate personalities for front of house.

“We’re looking to create four full-time positions and possibly as many as 10 part-time.

“I’m very excited about it.”

Company officials say the restaurant will be something ‘completely different’ for local diners.

Alex said: “It’s going to be food-led and with the business we are in we’re aware of current trends and what customers like.

“The emphasis will be on fresh, sustainable food and great service.

“It will be completely different and a different ambience altogether — relaxed and casual.”
