GREENOCK Prison has a role in a new movie starring veteran actress Julie Walters and newcomer Jessie Buckley.
Film crews were spotted on location at the jail on Monday.
Several vans rolled into Old Inverkip Road to shoot a scene of a ‘prisoner’ being released.
Governor William Stuart said the production company contacted the Scottish Prison Service for permission and he was happy to help.
Mr Stuart said: “The Scottish Prison Service was approached by the production company to ask if the prison could be used as a location.
“It is my understanding that Julie Walters may be in the film but she was not at the prison on Monday as they filmed a very short scene that did not include her.
“The scene filmed was that of a prisoner being liberated.”
Mr Stuart said he was happy to allow the crew to shoot at the prison.
He said: “We were happy to support that.”
The film — Country Music — follows the story of an aspiring singer, Rose-Lynn Harlan, who is fresh out of jail and with two young kids is desperate to get out of Glasgow to follow her dreams.
It features rising star Jessie Buckley from gothic horror series Taboo and mini series War and Peace.
It is being produced by Faye Ward of Fable Pictures and is directed by Tom Harper.
Partners on Country Music include Film4, Creative Scotland and the BFI.
