A GREENOCK pensioner who is in dispute with a local store fears that she will lose £750 she handed over for furniture.

Jeanette Halliday turned to the Tele after her purchase of tables, chairs and units from Discount World in West Blackhall Street turned sour.

She bought the furniture last month.

She was told that it would be delivered on July 3 but the goods never arrived.

Gran Jeanette, who suffers from severe ill health, says she was then told by staff at the store that they couldn’t give her any guarantees when she would get her furniture - and she was refused a refund.

Jeanette, of Lynedoch Street, said: “I saved up for months from my pension to buy the table and chairs.

“I ordered them on June 17 and was told they would be delivered on July 3.

“They never arrived and there was no phone call from the store.

“I waited and waited.

She contacted the store and was told that some of the units were not in stock yet.

Jeannette grew increasingly concerned about her order.

She said: “They told me it might be the end of July but they could make no promises.

“I am worried if I wait that long, the 28-day period will be up and I will have no comeback.

“I just want my money back or something in writing to say that I will get the furniture.

“I go from anger to bursting in to tears about it.”
Jeannette and her family contacted Consumer Rights for advice.

She said: “We were told that we were within our rights to get a refund but we would have to write a letter and then see a solicitor if the shop didn’t agree.

“But that would cost me as well.

“There is nowhere to go in Inverclyde for help, which is a disgrace.”

Jeanette, who has COPD, is recovering from a fall in her kitchen which left her fighting for her life after she broke her neck and ruptured her spleen.

She added: “I am a fighter but I feel sick to the stomach.

“I have no faith now that I will get the table and chairs and I really believe I have lost all my money.

“I regret handing it over.”

Discount World told the Tele they have ordered the units from a supplier and insist the goods will be delivered to Jeanette.

Manager Arthur Mohammod said: “I explained to the lady that some of the units were in and I would try to get them to her for July 3.

“After that it would be another two weeks.

“I have contacted the supplier and I will have it by Tuesday.

“I will arrange to get it delivered that day.”
Asked about the refund refusal, he added: “Some of the furniture was in the store.

“But the units were ordered specially for the customer.”
