PLANS have been unveiled for a new children’s soft play facility in Greenock town centre.

The £15,000 development, plus a restaurant/cafe, is being proposed for the former Speedy Hire unit off Dalrymple Street.

It would be aimed at children up to the age of 12 and would be available for children’s parties and ‘pay and play’ sessions.

The applicants said: “The purpose of the facility is to provide a multi-faceted play environment for children that will encourage exercise, thought and interaction with other children in the play process.”

The application also says that the facility would create full and part-time jobs, with roles including managers, supervisors, kitchen staff and party hosts.

The statement adds that ‘this type of employment is limited within the local economy at the moment’.

Room has been earmarked for 22 car parking spaces under the blueprint.

The applicant carried out a survey to ascertain residents’ views on the plans and claim that this established ‘a need and demand for the facility’.

Planning bosses at Inverclyde Council are now considering the proposal.
