MORTON fans are being urged to support a charity match this weekend in memory of a teenage girl who was killed in a car accident.

Asten Jones from Dunoon died in hospital after a crash on the A815 in Kilmun in May.

Ton kitman Andy Bryan, a friend of Asten’s family, has arranged a memorial game between Morton under-20s and Dunoon Amateurs on Sunday.

Ahead of the game, Asten’s family, including her mum Cathy Muir and siblings Lily Jones and Alfie Close, gathered in Gourock to show their support for the memorial match which is sponsored by Straps, of Kempock Street.

The Morton side will wear specially made all-pink strips, with Straps of Gourock on the front as  the sponsors, and every shirt bearing ‘Jones 18’ on the back in gold in a poignant tribute to the late teenager.

Andy said: “I’ve been a friend of Asten’s family for a number of years, and wanted to do something to try and help at such a difficult time for them all.

“I know Morton under-20s are always looking for pre-season games so I thought they would be interested in a wee charity match to raise money for Cathy and her family.”

Suzanne Mark, who owns Straps of Gourock, says she was keen to lend her support.

Suzanne said: “I hope they make a lot of money and that people turn out to support the match.”

Ton under-20s players Lewis Strapp, who is from Dunoon, and Jack Purdue, from Gourock, are both playing on Sunday.

Lewis, 17, who is also a friend of the family, said: “It’s good to be involved to help raise money for the family and I hope everybody comes and watches.”

Andy is keen to thank Ton manager Jim Duffy for his support as well as the under-20s coach Darren Barr.

The match will be played at Dunoon Stadium on Sunday with a 2pm kick-off.

Admission prices are £4 for adults and £2 for under-14s.
