THE newest members of Greenock’s Beacon Arts Centre board have wasted no time in getting to work.

Former Aileymill Primary head teacher Isabel Lind OBE and Lynsey Currie, who is also a teacher and runs Thistle Theatre Company, were welcomed by chief executive Jackie Shearer and chairman Allan Robertson at the waterfront venue after they were announced as trustees last week.

Mrs Lind said: “I’m absolutely honoured to be asked because the arts have been a passion of mine throughout my life and working life.

“I do all I can to promote the arts because of the wonderful effect they have on everybody.”

Fellow trustee Lynsey is no stranger to the venue having been involved in a number of performances there and at the Arts Guild over the years.

She will stage a new adaptation of The House of Bernarda Alba in October.

Lynsey said: “I feel really privileged because I’ve always had a massive connection with both the Arts Guild and the Beacon and it’s a fantastic opportunity to come on board and give a bit back to both organisations.”

Chief executive Jackie says their teaching backgrounds and involvement with so many local arts projects and organisations will complement the community work being done by the Beacon’s creative learning team.

She said: “That will be a real benefit to the organisation.

“They have so much local knowledge and a real passion for the arts, the theatre and the community.”

Mr Robertson added: “Both are really well-respected in the community and steeped in Inverclyde and the arts.

“They will bring a real diversity to the board.”
