DETECTIVES are investigating an attempted murder outside a Greenock nightclub in the early hours of this morning.
A 20-year-old man suffered serious head injuries following the attack at 2.10am outside Red in the town centre.
Police are appealing for witnesses who were outside the Cross Shore Street venue at the time to come forward to help with their enquiries.
Detective Sergeant Mark Gilmour said: "Two males were involved in the incident. The victim suffered serious head injuries and has been taken to Inverclyde Royal.
"We are appealing for people who were outside at the time to come forward."
A 19-year-old man has been detained by the police in connection with the murder bid.
Anyone who witnessed the attack is urged to contact Greenock CID on 101.
