THE ‘Cat in the Hat’ is one of the colourful characters which will be brought to life by young stage stars in their magical musical.

Audiences will be left spellbound by the Greenock Players Youth production of the all-singing and all-dancing ‘Seussical Jr’.

Their captivating show at the Beacon, will feature a number of Dr Seuss characters including ‘Horton the Elephant’.

One of the stars of the show is Charley Scott from Port Glasgow who plays the ‘Cat in the Hat’.

The 14-year-old St Stephen’s High School pupil, said: “It’s a lot of fun.

“We have been rehearsing every week.

“Everybody is working very hard during the rehearsals so they know what they are doing.

“There’s a lot of good songs in the show and it’s also very funny.”

Sarah McCallum, who is one of the co-directors of the show, says the children, who are all aged between eight and 15, are working their socks off ahead of the show.

Sarah said: “The kids have put in a lot of work.

“We started organising the show in April and then in May we held a casting and we’ve been working on it ever since.

“We have some children who are new to theatre and some have been coming along for years, so it’s a great mix.”

Sarah-Jayne Gorman, co-director, says it’s great to pass on her experience as she has been with the youth theatre for 11 years.

She said: “I was nervous about directing it but as the journey has progressed I’m now so excited.”
