A COMEDY which is heading back to Greenock due to popular demand has just been named the hottest ticket in the UK.

The Dolls Abroad, starring River City’s Gayle Telfer Stevens and Louise McCarthy, from Only An Excuse, went down at storm at the Beacon Arts Centre in April.

It will return to the venue for two nights in October and this time with a top accolade in the bag.

The sell-out show has reached the summit of the prestigious ‘Rising Comedy’ list published by the country’s biggest live show guide, Ents24.

The Dolls’ popularity was further reinforced when an online YouTube clip recently surpassed three million views.

Ents24 said: “This Scottish duo have been taking the West End by storm with their musical comedy extravaganza and take the top spot as our fastest rising comedy act.”

The show sees friends Gayle and Louise play a pair of sassy Scottish scrubbers — quite literally — who clean pubs and toilets for a living.

But they get the chance to let their hair down when they win an all-expenses paid holiday to Greece.

Described as ‘Mrs Brown times two, with a little bit of Thelma & Louise thrown in for good measure’, the show has been picking up rave reviews and packing out venues across the country.

Gayle and Louise co-wrote the Dolls as well as starring in it and say they have just as much fun as the audience.
Louise said: “It’s just the greatest buzz in the world.”

Co-star Gayle, who has also appeared in Casualty and the hit movie musical Sunshine on Leith, says the fact they get on like a house on fire is key to the show’s success.

She said: “The chemistry between us is amazing.

“We just set each other off, and the audience participation really adds to the energy of the night.

“It’s the sort of thing you just can’t replicate in a TV show or with a movie.

“This is what live theatre is all about - audiences and performers bonding for a great evening of fun, tears and laughter.”
