POLICE officers taped off an east end Greenock high rise block this evening after an undisclosed incident.
A spokesperson declined to comment on accounts from members of the public at the scene who stated that someone had fallen from a window at Cartsdyke Court just after 6pm.
Five police cars and two ambulances were in attendance.
The Telegraph was told at the scene by onlookers that a man had died after falling from the high flats but the authorities say they cannot release any information about the emergency alert at this stage.
The police spokesperson said: "We are there in force, but we are still trying to piece together what happened.
"We have to speak to witnesses and family members, so it would be inappropriate to give any more information.
"Our response and CID officers are there, and we are at the early stages of our inquiry."
Anyone with information which could assist the police inquiry should call 101.
