THESE first class students are celebrating straight A success in their Higher exams.
A total of 20 fifth year pupils from five different schools gained five highers at A grade at one sitting.
In what was a record-breaking year, there were six straight A pupils from Clydeview Academy and six from St Columba's High, both in Gourock, four from St Stephen's High in Port Glasgow, three from Notre Dame High in Greenock and one from Inverclyde Academy.
The pupils are delighted by their success and pleased all their hard work paid off.
Notre Dame pupil Craig Forbes, 16, said: "I'm chuffed, as I put a bit of a shift in."
Kirsty McKenzie, 17, from Inverclyde Academy, said: "I was really happy and relieved. It makes it easier to get into university."
Andrew Mearns, 17, who attends St Stephen's, said: "I'm delighted, it's been a lot of hard work. I hope to go into medicine, so I've still got a long way ahead."
Priya Das, 16, a Clydeview Academy pupil, told the Tele: "It's opened up lots of opportunities for me and I'm excited to see where it takes me."
St Columba's High's Anna Dunsmuir, 17, said: "I feel really happy, it's taken a lot of pressure off me and I'm thinking about doing chemical engineering."
Another excellent year saw the number of pupils gaining three to four Highers in fifth year rise to its highest ever.
In S5 more than a third - 33.5% - achieved three passes and the rate gaining five hit 13.8%.
Provost Martin Brennan says the results posted by local teenagers are 'absolutely fantastic'.
He said: "I've spoke to a few of the candidates and quite a large number seem to have gained qualifications in the sciences, which is good for Inverclyde and the wider community.
"I am so pleased that so many young people have done so well."
Education convener Councillor Jim Clocherty said the straight A students had recorded an 'outstanding achievement'.
He added: "It is no mean feat to gain A grades in every subject and I know a lot of hard work and effort has gone in to these results.
"We are educating a generation in new and refurbished state-of-the-art schools with motivated, professional and dedicated teaching and support staff giving our children and young people the best possible start in life.”
