MORTON manager Jim Duffy has today put pen to paper on a contract that will keep him at Cappielow until the summer of 2019.

The former Morton captain was appointed on 19 May 2014, leaving Clyde to sign an initial two-year deal before renewing for a further 24 months in April 2016.

Club chairman Douglas Rae OBE has now extended the 2016/17 Ladbrokes Championship Manager of the Season’s stay on Sinclair Street and gave a glowing appraisal of Duffy’s performance in his three years in charge thus far.

Speaking today to gmfc.net, Mr Rae said: “I’m delighted Jim has signed a contract extension. He is an outstanding manager and very good with the players. He’s strict, he works them hard, but he’s a very, very fair man. A top guy.

“He’s very loyal, very intelligent, very honest, and very supportive in everything in connection with the club. He’s also a great tactician and great at reading games.

“I’m really very happy with the job he’s done and he knows that, because I keep telling him. He’s really been remarkable. I took him from League Two as I thought he was the best candidate, and that has been proven. One could not look for, or I’m sure get, better.”

Duffy steered his side to an emphatic Renfrewshire derby win against St Mirren on Saturday.
