FIVE cute cousins celebrated starting school at the same time.

The new starts marked the special day by visiting their great-gran, Esther Aitken.

Esther, 83, was thrilled when all her great-grandchildren, their parents and grandparents gathered for a get-together at her house in Greenock’s Wallace Street.

She said: “It was a big day for them all.

“They all started at different schools, so I couldn’t go to see them all going in.

“It was lovely to get all the family together.

“One my great-granddaughters Reva lives in Glasgow, she started on Tuesday but her mum brought her down on Thursday to be with the rest of her cousins.”

The fabulous five are Brandon Canney and Kiara Campbell, who both started at Whinhill Primary, Olivia McFadyen of Aileymill, and Taylor Kennedy, who started at Inverkip Primary, while Reva Aitken’s school is Chirnsyde Primary in Milton.

Mum-of-six Esther had witnessed many first school days throughout the years — she has no fewer than 18 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.

Her daughter Jean Chan, 61, said: “It’s usually been one at a time but this year, they all started on the same day.

“I saw Brandon going into Whinhill Primary, then went to Inverkip to see Taylor coming out.

“It was quite emotional.”

Her sister Cath McCallum, 56, said: “It was all go in the morning. We knew mum couldn’t go to see them all, so we brought them up to see her.”

Esther says the Telegraph coming along to record the milestone was the icing on the cake.

She said: “It’s been lovely. The Telegraph coming to take their picture has made my day.

“My family never told me the Tele was coming.”
