INVERCLYDE charity champ, Tommy ‘The Clown’ Armstrong’, has presented his latest cheques to good causes.
Tommy, 76, who won this year’s Greenock Telegraph Community Champion charity award, raises money every week at his stance on West Blackhall Street, where he plays 1960s records and gives away cuddly toys to children.
Generous members of the public have recently donated £400, so Tommy has now handed over £100 each to Inverclyde Elderly Forum, local Arthrogryposis group ‘Tag’, Royalheart Greyhound Rescue and Mary’s Meals.
Forum chairperson, Nell McFadden MBE, was unable to be there, but pictured with the cheques from left are Donna McGovern of Tag, Tommy, Michael Lynch of Mary’s Meals and Lesley Roberts of Royalheart.
Donna, of Gourock, said Tommy’s latest donation would go towards research into arthrogryposis, a condition which means children are born with their legs in an awkward position and need hospital treatment.
Michael, of Inverkip, said the money would help to feed schoolchildren in Malawi.
And Lesley, of Greenock, said Tommy is one of Royalheart’s regular supporters, and his cheque would help to look after their hounds.
