NEARLY 70 jobs are set to go at a Greenock warehouse and distribution centre.

Bosses from computer technology firm Misco have announced that they are pulling the plug on their Cartsburn HQ by the end of the year.

Around 90 people work at the Greenock warehouse.
All 24 sales staff will be retained but they will be relocated to ‘another premises locally’ when the current office closes.

Alan Cantwell, Misco chief executive, said: “This difficult decision follows a detailed analysis of the business and is part of a wider strategy to bring Misco back to full profitability in order to achieve our long term goals.

“It is also our intention to improve the entire Enterprise Resource Planning platform and integration processes with our partners.

“This will in turn improve the overall customer experience and drive sales.

“So it is with regret that we will be closing our UK warehouse and releasing staff. Supply chain outsourcing, and the available automation, offers greater efficiencies and lower costs and is vital to the future success of the business.”

The company specialises in the supply of computer hardware, software and other office supplies and accessories through catalogues and online.

There has been a sharp fall in turnover in recent years according the firm’s latest set of annual accounts.

In the year up to January 2016, Misco UK posted an operating loss of nearly £8.5 million on the back of a £5.6m deficit in the previous 12 months.

Bosses blame ‘intense price competition’ and ‘narrow’ profit margins.

The Greenock warehouse will remain functional until the end of the year when the planned changes will come into effect.
The sales office will be relocated locally to allow for ‘more space’ and ‘planned expansion’.
