AILEYMILL Primary has created a touching ‘thank you’ wall to recognise those with a special link to the school.

Aileymill’s Parent Partnership recently unveiled the first people to have a plaque on the wall at a special ceremony.

Former head teacher Isabel Lind, retiring minister Reverend Allan McIntyre and the former chair of the parent partnership Lesley Crumlish all now take pride of place as the first to be chosen.

There was also a plaque installed in memory of former nursery teacher Connie McGowan, who lost her battle with cancer four years ago.

Children at the school will be given the opportunity to choose someone they think should also be honoured.

Aileymill Primary parent partnership chairman Frank Smith said: “We wanted to do something special to recognise people in the community who have supported the school.

“Aileymill really is a great place, an institution in many ways, and these three people have had a lot to do with the school’s success.”

Aileymill opened in 2010 after a merger between Earnhill and Ravenscraig Primary.

Frank’s oldest daughter Nadia was in the school’s first primary one class.

She is now in second year and her dad was full of praise for the start she was given.

He added: “There were challenges to start with, but thanks to the people who are now on this wall it has become a great school.

“I have two other children at Aileymill and another in the nursery. It’s a fantastic place.”

Retired teacher Mrs Lind was a huge presence as the school’s first head.

She was named Scottish teacher of the year during her career and has devoted her life to helping local children.

Frank added: “Mrs Lind was an incredible influence on everyone she taught and guided.”

She is joined on the wall by Lesley, who has now stood down from the parent partnership as her children have moved on to high school.

Frank added: “I have taken over as chair and I now fully realise the work that Lesley put in over the years.”

Reverend McIntyre, who recently left St Ninian’s Church, worked closely with Mrs Lind as a school chaplain.

He said: “Aileymill Primary has always had a close partnership with all the local churches and neighbouring school St Andrew’s to help bring the community together.”
