DAREDEVIL girls from a Greenock service station are ready to be covered in mud to raise money for a good cause.

Nine staff from the BP station on Inverkip Road are taking part in a Cancer Research Race for Life ‘Pretty Muddy’ 5k.

They will have to crawl through a mud pit, scramble over a frame and get through various other obstacles on the cross-country course at Bellahouston Park in Glasgow.

Deputy service station manager, Hayley Smith, said they had hoped to collect £1,000, but are already at £1,300 and climbing.

BP will match-fund whatever is collected, giving the team even more of an incentive.

Hayley said: “We decided to do this for cancer research because most of us have been affected in some way by the illness.

“We want to do whatever we can to help the charity.”
Many local businesses have donated items for a raffle at the station.

Hayley said: “So far we’ve done a guess a bear’s name, with the winner receiving a teddy bear and chocolates donated by the store.

“We’re doing a guess the coffee bean sweepstake, with the winner receiving a £20 gift voucher from Chow Chinese restaurant and a bottle of wine donated by the store.

“We plan on doing more things like this is the coming weeks, and offering free car washes for a donation during our ‘pink weekend’ this Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

“Rangers have given us two tickets for a match, and Celtic have donated a tour of their stadium for four people.

“Other prizes include family passes to the Waterfront Leisure Centre and a voucher for Ardgowan Fisheries.”

The girls have been doing lots of walking to get fit for their big challenge on September 16, and they are planning a night out afterwards to celebrate.
