A FUNDRAISING football match will kick off in Greenock this weekend.
Coaches from St Andrew’s Boys’ Club will take on a team of local firefighters at Ravenscraig Stadium tomorrow to help raise money for charity Brightest Star and the Andy Adams Fund.
Both causes are close to the hearts of those involved with the football team.
Brightest Star supports bereaved families and helped the parents of St Andrew’s player Robbie Quigg, who was just six when he tragically died two years ago following a car accident outside his Larkfield home.
Andy Adams’ son Darren plays for the club and a fund was set up to help with his recovery from life-changing injuries suffered in the line of duty tackling a deliberate fire at the former LMA hall last August.
Match organiser Graham Black, who is a coach with St Andy’s, said: “We are nearing the second anniversary of our 2009s player Robbie Quigg’s tragic accident and the Brightest Star is a charity that Robbie’s parents Rab and Michelle hold close to their hearts.
“Andy’s son Darren also plays in our 2002 section so in terms of fundraising what a better way to do it with St Andrew’s coaches versus the fire service in a charity football match.”
Kick-off is at noon tomorrow and entry is free but there will be buckets for people to make donations, with proceeds being split between the two good causes.
There will also be a raffle, hot food and drink and the 2009s team will play a seven-a-side match during the half-time break.
