BUILDING bosses were quizzed by pupils on the progress of their new £9 million school in Gourock.

The ‘press gang’ from St Ninian’s Primary School donned their high-vis vests for a special tour round the construction site just off Kirn Drive.

During their VIP visit on Wednesday, the children were given a behind the scenes tour by John Jamieson, the site manager from CCG Scotland.

The pupils were also given the chance to ask questions about their new school, so they can report back to their classmates.

Matthew Quinn,10, said: “It’s quite exciting to see it now. When it’s finished it will be a big difference.

“Our school has been here for a long time, so it’s good that we’re getting a new school.”

Rory Hurrell, also 10, added: “I want to be an architect so it was really interesting to see the blueprint.”

Site manager John Jamieson says that work is on track for the school to be completed by next summer in time for the pupils returning from their holidays.

He told the Tele: “It’s going to be their school so we want to show them as much as we can.”

Siobhan Currie, depute head at St Ninian’s, accompanied the kids on the tour alongside janitor Graham Murray and learning assistant Angela McAulay.

She said: “The press gang involves pupils from P1 to P7 and the children will visit the site and ask questions and report back to their classes at special assemblies.

“It’s great that the children have the chance to do this.”

Construction on the new £9 million school started in July and building bosses hope to get the roof and first floor of the school built by Christmas.
