PUPILS at Aileymill Primary crunched the numbers as part of a national fun learning week.
Each class appointed its very own ‘numeracy ninja’ as the school took part in Maths Week.
Everyone discovered how important numbers are in everyday life.
P1 teacher and numeracy co-ordinator Laura McGilp said: “The kids loved it.
“We gave them real life experiences where maths is used and emphasised how important it is, while also making it a fun and engaging subject.”
The school was also visited by a number of local business representatives, and BBC Scotland dropped in to do a spot of filming too.
Miss McGilp said: “We had architect Marco Rebecchi, builder Scott Gage, Abbey Vets, computer programmer Mick Barry and Welsh Walker accountants.
“The P7s also had a trip to Strathclyde University to take part in a Maths ‘Murder Mystery Day’.”
The five days of the school week were split into individual fifths to focus on one subject at a time — numbers on Monday, money on Tuesday, measures on Wednesday then time and data handling on Thursday.
Friday formed a celebration of learning as the numeracy ninjas reported to a school assembly and gave feedback on what everyone had learned.
Miss McGilp — who was assisted by sixth year pupils from Clydeview Academy — said: “Everyone got such enjoyment out of the week — I’d give it 10 out 10!”
