THESE crafty youngsters got into the spooky spirit of Halloween in a fun workshop.

Lady Alice Primary 6/7 class took part in sessions run by Rig Arts.
The arts group are working with a handful of local schools in the run-up to the local Galoshans Festival.

This class were making hair, anchors and lanterns in connection with their chosen character Captain Kidd.

Annette Whitelaw from Rig Arts said: “The project is based on the Galoshans play.

“It was the original Halloween story where poorer children would break down the doors and perform this play and the only way to get rid of them was to give them food.”

The characters include the Warlock, a local character, the witch (Granny Kempock), Dr Brown, a hero figure in William Wallace and Captain Kidd who has links to Inverclyde.

Five primary schools are taking part and all have been tasked with helping make the 12ft puppets.

Ardgowan Primary has the witch, Newark Primary the warlock, All Saints William Wallace and Moorfoot Primary the doctor.

Class teacher Jim Crawford said: “The pupils have really enjoyed it.”
