A BRAZEN thief walked into a Greenock car dealership and drove off with a £30k car.

The theft happened at about 1.30pm on Thursday afternoon at the Arnold Clark dealership in Pottery Street, pictured.

Police are now scouring CCTV from the garage in a bid to identify and trace the person responsible.

Officers told the Telegraph that a man gained access to the grey Volkswagen Golf GTI, which was worth around £30,000, and drove off in the direction of Port Glasgow.

Sergeant Kayley Teasdale at Greenock Police Office said they are reviewing footage of the incident as inquiries continue.

She said: “A £30,000 grey coloured Volkswagen Golf GTI was stolen from the Arnold Clark Greenock Ford dealership in Pottery Street.

“It was stolen on Thursday at about 1.30pm from the compound which the business uses to store its vehicles prior to going into showrooms.

“It appears that a true key has been used to open the door of the vehicle before it was stolen.

“The person responsible, once inside, appears to have started the car and has been captured on camera driving out of the compound and then off along the A8 in the direction of Port Glasgow.”

Sergeant Teasdale is appealing for anyone with information as to the car’s wherabouts to come forward.

She added: “Anyone with information is asked to telephone police on 101 or contact us through Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.”

The Tele contacted Arnold Clark for comment, but the company had failed to respond to our request as we went to press.
