A PATHWAY used by patients to get to a doctors surgery in Port Glasgow is to be re-opened after the Tele took up the issue with developers.
Councillor David Wilson contacted us after being flooded with complaints about the closure of the path leading from Auchenbothie Road to Port Glasgow Medical Centre.
He said reception staff in the surgery had been inundated with complaints from patients struggling to get to their appointments due to the closure.
The Tele took their concerns to Sanctuary Homes, who had blocked the path to allow for the demolition of the old Boglestone Clinic.
Alan Hannah, the head of construction for Sanctuary, listened to the patients concerns and vowed to re-open the path as soon as possible.
He said: "The path from Auchenbothie Road forms part of the site and was blocked off for the public’s safety during the demolition process.
"Having been made aware of the issues this is causing to people’s access to the medical centre, we have instructed for the hoarding on the path to be pulled back so the path can return to public use as soon as possible."
Councillor Wilson says he is delighted that the developers have listened to the patients and staff at the surgery.
He said: "This is excellent news.
"It's credit to all the constituents and patients at the surgery who complained about it and is another victory for the Greenock Telegraph."
The old Boglestone clinic shut at the end of January with staff and services moved to other locations in Inverclyde, including Port Glasgow Health Centre.
NHS chiefs pulled the plug on the Dubbs Place clinic to help fund the new £21.2m Greenock Health Centre.
The land has since been sold to property developer Sanctuary Group which has submitted a planning application to Inverclyde Council to build 24 'amenity style' flats at the site.
