THE main road in Greenock has been closed in both directions following a serious accident.
Onlookers at the scene say that a man was hit by a large lorry at the crossing just outside the Inverclyde Centre on Dalrymple Street.
Emergency services immediately rushed to the scene to attend to the casualty.
Police confirmed that there had been a road traffic accident on the A8 involving a lorry.
A large tailback of traffic quickly built up as a result of the incident.
Police have closed the dual carriageway in both directions and motorists should avoid the stretch if possible.
