A COCKTAIL with a ‘Twist’ will be served up by a Greenock bar tender who is preparing to battle it out in a mixology competition.

Andy Patrick, the general manager at Twist in West Blackhall Street, hopes his lavender-flavoured gin cocktail has all the right ingredients when he shakes it up at the contest at the Riverhill Courtyard in Helensburgh next month.

The 36-year-old, who has 15 years of cocktail making experience under his belt, said: “I’m really looking forward to it.

“It’s a chance for people to see what we are doing and a chance for us to see what the guys at Riverhill are doing.”

Andy’s eye catching concoction contains Brockmans Gin, homemade lavender syrup, lavender petals, viola flowers, blackberries, pasteurised egg white, lime juice and grapefruit juice.

He says his love of cooking inspires his cocktail making.
Andy said: “People are starting to use more herbs and more flavours in their cocktails.

“There is a crossover from the kitchen to the bar and that’s what I’m really interested in.

“I like the idea of using the flavours in cooking and creating a drink.

“For instance, I learned from our chef that egg white is a great ingredient for cocktails.”

He will go head to head in the contest, which is sponsored by Brockmans, on Sunday December 10.
