A CCTV camera was set on fire in Greenock this morning — the third to be targeted in recent in weeks.
Fire and police were alerted to the blaze in Westmorland Road at 5.30am.
They discovered the surveillance camera, which is located high up on a pole, was alight.
Detective Inspector David Wagstaff has hit out at the culprits, saying their actions is putting public safety at risk.
He said: “We are very concerned about this. These cameras are there for crime prevention reasons and to protect communities.
“We would appeal for help from the people living locally to help us catch those responsible.”
Last month a camera in Burns Square in Larkfield was deliberately set on fire, then another torched a few days later in Kirkwall Road, Branchton, on November 28.
