THE magical fairytale Beauty and the Beast is coming to Inverclyde this weekend — on ice.

In a tale as old as time, the Waterfront Ice Skating Club will retell the popular love story.

The Tele caught up with the cast who have been working hard both on and off the ice to perfect their performances.

Now they are inviting the audience to be their guests — and enjoy the show as they glide across the ice.

Join Belle, the Beast and favourites like Lumiere and Chip as they tell the spellbinding story, and the cast has been busy putting the finishing touches to their romantic moves in rehearsals.

Head coach Kayleigh Munro said: “Beauty and the Beast was a popular choice.

“They have all been working hard and it is looking good. There has been endless excitement.

“We have more than 100 members of the skate club and only around 20 compete. This is a chance for all of our members to be involved. We want to include everyone.

“We have great skaters and the club is all going from strength to strength.”

Kayleigh hopes Beauty and the Beast will follow on from the huge success of the Wizard of Oz last year.

The ice skating club was also delighted to get the help and support of Doug Henry from the Greenock Players.

It brings the curtains down on a fantastic year for the club skaters, who conquered competitions all over the country and are now keen to put on a ice dance spectacular to round off the year.

Taking on the lead role of Belle is 16-year-old Megan McGeachy.

The Clydeview Academy sixth year pupil has been skating for 10 years and is the highest ranked competitor at the club.

She trains for 11 hours a week and since starting to compete, has had 21 podium finishes and 11 first places.

Megan also coaches  the younger children and is looking forward to bringing Belle to life on ice.

She will be starring alongside 14-year-old Rachael Stewart, who will take on the role of the Beast.

The young skating star is rising through the ranks fast and will shine in the iconic role.

All five performances of Beauty and the Beast on at the Waterfront this weekend are heading for sell-outs.
