INVERCLYDE awoke to a winter wonderland today but the snow caused treacherous traffic conditions.
Heavy snowfall swept across the area in the early hours and a weather warning for more remains in force until 3pm.
Drivers heading to work faced disruption with some abandoning their cars while McGill's bus services were only able to cover main roads this morning with housing estates left off limits.
Icy conditions also caused a serious crash just off Kilmacolm Road last night, when a woman's car went off the road and ended up in a field by Knocknairshill Cemetery.
Firefighters from Greenock rushed to the scene and had to use cutting equipment to free the trapped woman from her vehicle before she was rushed to hospital.
There was no information available on her condition from the authorities this morning.
