STAFF at Ardgowan Hospice are encouraging people to ‘Get Active’ in aid of the facility.

The hospice have launched the ‘Active for Ardgowan’ appeal — inviting people to sign up to an activity to raise sponsorship for their cause.

Ann-Marie Fry, hospice communications officer, is gearing up for her own challenge and hopes people will follow her lead.

She said: “I’ve always liked cycling so I’m going to sign up for a challenge around that.

“It’s mid-January and many good intentions may have fallen by the wayside, but a way to feel better and resolve to get fitter and support the hospice is to take part in this appeal.

“Adding some active time to your day can boost your mood and help you feel better.”

Also taking part is Alex Mula, hospice events and fundraising co-ordinator, who has signed up for a 10k run in Glasgow.

He said: “I will be raising money for the hospice and it also means I will need to get out and train in all weathers.”

Raymond Bain, hospice maintenance manager, is planning to kayak the Crinan Canal in Argyll and Bute.

He said: “Me and the staff did this last year.

“I kayaked and other staff ran or cycled — it was great.

“I think this is a great way for the staff to give something back and it shows that we are part of the community.”

Active for Ardgowan is for everyone and suits those who want to make a positive change through getting more mobile.

Participants don’t need to be running a marathon — signing up can include getting off the bus a stop earlier, taking the stairs at work or leaving the car and walking to the shops.

Any money saved is then donated to the hospice.

The hospice also have a full list of events lined up, including a ‘bubble rush’ on May 6, a 5k run which is suitable for all abilities.
