INVERCLYDE’S MSP is joining the family of late schoolboy Jayden Orr to help put a defibrillator in every local school.

Stuart McMillan has thrown his weight behind the Tele-backed Show Some Heart campaign launched by Jayden’s parents, Kathleen and John in the wake of the 10-year-old’s tragic death.

Mr McMillan is now asking his colleagues at Holyrood to do the same as he takes the drive to the Scottish Parliament.

Jayden’s mum and dad are aiming to raise £50,000 to help save lives in his memory after he suddenly collapsed and died while ice-skating last August.

They have opened a charity shop, Jayden’s Rainbow, in Greenock town centre and have been inundated with donations of goods for sale.

Mr McMillan said: “I wholeheartedly support the campaign.

“This awful tragedy has affected many people and the loss of a child is something that few parents have to go through.

“I admire the strength of the Orr family highlighting the problem and campaigning for a better outcome for children and families.

“By doing this, they want to make sure others don’t suffer and go through the same.”

Together with Mr McMillan and Jayden’s parents, the Tele aims to highlight the need for more life saving defibrillators in public places.

MSP Mr McMillan’s motion says: “The parliament welcomes the backing of this campaign from the Greenock Telegraph who have been hugely supportive of the family and commends the strength of the Orr family with their campaign to improve the society and wish them every success with their campaign.”
