A MURDER bid accused Greenock father has been charged with attempting to knife his own son to death.

Gary Roe, 49, is said to have stabbed 20-year-old Declan Roe at an address on the town’s Regent Street.

Roe snr was arrested after police were alerted to an alleged incident at a common close there late at night.

Four marked patrol cars, a van and an ambulance were all called to the scene.

A large police presence was maintained at the address, with six uniformed officers seen standing guard at the back door of the close — which was cordoned off with incident tape while investigations were carried out.

Details of the alleged serious disturbance last Thursday were not released by Police Scotland as the Telegraph went to press on Friday morning.

Accused Roe snr, of Regent Street, appeared at Greenock Sheriff Court this week charged with the attempted murder of his son.

Prosecutors say that he stabbed him and then tried to kill him by attacking him with a blade.

The charge against Roe snr alleges that he did assault his son, stab him ‘in’ the body with a knife to severe injury and did attempt to murder him.

Roe snr appeared from police custody for a private hearing on petition at the court on Monday, during which he made no plea through lawyer Aidan Gallagher to the allegation against him.

Sheriff Andrew McIntyre continued the case for further examination and remanded Roe snr in custody.

A further calling of the case in Greenock is scheduled to take place next week.
