A KIND-HEARTED Port Glasgow businessman has offered to put the first defibrillator into a local school as part of the Show Some Heart Jayden Orr campaign.

Bouverie Motors owner David Smith was deeply moved by Kathleen and John Orr’s bid to install one of the life-saving devices in every school in memory of their son.

As part of the Tele-backed campaign — launched last week — the couple are asking businesses and organisations across Inverclyde to unite and donate a defibrillator as part of the £50,000-target campaign.

Local man David, who also runs his own charity, was determined to help after reading our story.

He said: “My wife and I are both first aiders. We know the difference these machines make.

“I know what a defibrillator can do and how important it is. If someone collapses a first aider might not save a life, but a defibrillator can. They make all the difference in those crucial minutes.

“I think what Kathleen and John are doing is amazing. I wanted to buy a defibrillator before, but I thought what use is it in the back of my car?

“We need them in public places and this is a superb local campaign by the Telegraph and the Orr family.”

Kathleen and John have been overwhelmed by the support they had from local people already.

Kathleen said: “This is brilliant and we can’t thank David enough for his donation.”

They have opened up their Jayden’s Rainbow Charity shop in Jamaica Street, Greenock, and have been flooded with donations.

MSP Stuart McMillan is also joining the campaign and is hoping to secure a debate in parliament on the issue.
He has put down a motion asking his colleagues in the chamber to support a debate.

We also revealed last week how two former shipyard workers walked in off the street to donate £3,000 to the cause.

Both Charlie Douglas and Robert Osborne have raised £90,000 from selling rolls at Rosyth and made their most recent donation to Jayden’s mum and dad.

Jayden’s shop is open every Tuesday to Saturday from 10am to 4pm.
