IT’S the end of the road for potholes in one Greenock street — after pensioners won their fight for repairs.
Irene Marner and Jean Glenny, who live in the St Margaret’s Court sheltered housing complex, said it was impossible for elderly residents to cross Auchneagh Farm Road due to its crater ridden pavement and road.
They took their case to local independent councillor Tommy McVey who immediately took action.
He took their complaints to the council’s roads department who have now resurfaced the road and pavement, making it safer for the pensioners to cross the road to reach the nearby shops.
Councillor McVey said: “It was brought to my attention that the road and pavements were badly rutted.
“Obviously because there is a sheltered housing complex here there are many residents who use wheelchairs and walking aids and they were finding it difficult to cross the road to get to the shops.
“I came up and had a look at it and then I contacted the roads department who were excellent and fixed the problem.”
Irene and Jean, who are both 83, say they are thrilled that the surface has been repaired.
Jean said: “It was terrible before.
“I use a walker to get about and when I tried to cross the road it would get stuck in the holes.
“Councillor McVey has been brilliant, he came up to my flat and took a note of everything.
“This work has made a big difference.”
