Donald Trump says he is heading to Florida and will “meet with some of the bravest people”.
The president’s tweet did not elaborate on his plans, but White House officials are working to arrange a meeting with people affected by the deadly shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.
Mr Trump said he will meet “people whose lives have been totally shattered”.
At least 17 died when a former student opened fire at the school in Parkland on Wednesday.
The president said he is “working with Congress on many fronts”, but he has not addressed the idea of new gun control measures, instead focusing on treatment of mental illness.
Mr Trump was already set to leave on Friday for a weekend at his Palm Beach resort.
