TEENAGERS have given a mental health charity a major cash boost.

A team of S4 pupils from Clydeview Academy won an in-house competition as part of the Youth and Philanthropy Initiative (YPI) and the £3,000 they scooped will now help the charity provide a range of mental health support and services.

The initiative was led by teachers Irene Fox and Elaine Tait with support from other members of staff.

Mrs Tait, who is a religious, moral and philosophical studies teacher, said: “The pupils were to look at a few issues in Inverclyde and then find out about a charity that helps to address those issues.

“The pupils researched their chosen charities and also went out to visit them.

“There was a competition where the teams had to do a presentation on their chosen charities and the best teams then went through to a final.

“At the final, a judging panel gave the highest points to the team who chose to support SAMH, so the charity was delighted to receive the donation.”

The winning team was made up of pupils including Cara Drake, Sarah Hunter, Hayley Doyle, Phoebe Kitchen and Natasha Clark.
