A TOTAL of £6m of investment was announced as part of the budget.

It includes £1.3m for facilities, including Lady Octavia Sports Centre and Boglestone Community Centre, and £150,000 to develop a new indoor tennis hall.

A sum of £850,000 will fund new equipment at Greenock Crematorium.

There will also be £500,000 for an action plan geared towards promoting repopulation.

Separate capital investment will see more money ploughed into the school estate, with £5.8m on the refurbishment and extension of St Mary’s Primary, £1.6m for an extension at Gourock Primary, £1m on refurbishing Hillend Children’s Centre and £350,000 on upgrading Larkfield Children’s Centre.

There will also be £200,000 put into fighting poverty, including raising the school clothing grant to £90 and introducing free sanitary products in schools.

More money will be allocated to providing apprenticeships and training for young people.

There will be money for dementia and austism-friendly initiatives, the iYouth Zones will be protected, a community fund launched, pipe band championships will be brought here with £350,000 and there will be investment in Inverkip Community Hub, money to demolish redundant buildings in Port Glasgow and the continuation of summer playschemes.

Passing places are also to be built in Gourock’s Kirn Drive, Ashton Prom will be refurbished and Gourock Pool will open for one month longer.
