FILMING for a new BBC One TV thriller to be shown across the UK is taking place in Gourock.

Cameras started rolling at a house in Firth Crescent yesterday morning and scenes will be shot there again throughout today for four-part series ‘The Victim’, which is being made by STV Productions.

A base for cast and crew has also been set up at Cardwell Garden Centre.

The show is set in Edinburgh and is described as a ‘gripping, contemporary legal thriller’ told through the eyes of the plaintiff and the accused.

The mini-series will feature four 60-minute episodes, which will be shown across the UK on BBC One.

Sarah Brown, head of drama for STV Productions, said: “It’s particularly exciting to be making a drama set and shot in Scotland, and to be able to tell a story which is both totally rooted in its setting, and yet utterly universal in its concerns.

“STV is committed to investing in the Scottish creative industries and this high quality drama will be a great boost for TV production in Scotland.

The show follows the stories of Carl and Anna and asks who the real victims are.

Carl is subjected to a random, unprovoked attack, after being identified online as a notorious child murderer living under a new identity but explores whether he is a dangerous killer or if his demise is due to mistaken identity.

The other main character, Anna, is the mother of a teenage boy who was murdered two decades ago by a then 14-year-old and, having campaigned to be told the culprit’s new identity and whereabouts, is then accused of revealing the details online and conspiring to have him killed.

They are played out through the lens of one criminal trial with moral dilemmas thrown up and sides taken in two very different quests for justice.

Donalda MacKinnon, director of BBC Scotland, said: “We’ve been very public about trying to boost our drama output as part of our strategy of providing programmes that are more relevant for audiences in Scotland — but which can also be enjoyed as compelling stories no matter where you live.”

The details of who is starring in the show and when it will be aired have yet to be announced.
