A GOUROCK cafe has the recipe for success after picking up a national honour for its produce.

Staff at One Cove Road clinched the ‘Best Free From Serve’ prize at the Crema Awards in recognition of their work catering for people with special dietary requirements.

They offer a wide selection of cakes and dishes suitable for vegetarians, vegans, those with gluten and dairy allergies and calorie-conscious customers.

One Cove Road was also a finalist in the ‘Best Barista’ category, which honours the top coffee-maker in the country.

The awards celebrate the best cafes in Scotland and are voted for by the public and independently judged.

Prizes were handed out at a glitzy black-tie dinner in Glasgow’s Double Tree Hilton hotel on Sunday night and staff are thrilled to be officially declared ‘Crema the crop’.
Julie-Anne McKee, manager of One Cove Road, said: “We’re delighted.

“We cater for all special dietary requests and we have a huge following because of that.

“Our home-baking and food from the menu is all made on-site and we have a huge range of gluten-free products, for example.

“To be independently recognised and crowned winners at the Crema Awards has been a real highlight for our team.”

Staff at the Cardwell Bay coffee shop have been working tirelessly over the last year to ensure their menu has something for everyone and the award is the icing on the cake.

Julie-Anne, pictured, said: “We have worked hard to consider the needs of our customers and to be initially nominated by them makes our jobs all the more worthwhile.

“Dietary preferences is something that we take very seriously and we have visitors coming from far and wide to sample our food, so it is great to play a part in putting Inverclyde on the food and drink map.”
