A POPULAR Greenock town centre cafe has been put up for sale for £55,000.

New owners are being sought for Browns on Nicolson Street, with the current proprietor set to retire after 12 years in charge.

The busy cafe is open six days a week and can seat up to 60 people.

It caters for people sitting in or who want to take away.

The cafe is being marketed by specialist business brokers Bruce & Co.

In a statement, the company said: "Browns Cafe is an extremely busy business which has been run by the current proprietor since 2006.

"The business is now well established and has built up a reputation for being one of the area's best places to enjoy a light meal or lunch with friends.

"The business is being sold due to the current vendors' wish to retire from the hospitality industry.

"Browns has built up an excellent reputation for traditional cafe fare."

Experts say it would be an 'excellent first business opportunity' for someone and that there is room to increase trade.

A spokesman said: "The vendors currently operate the business six days per week open from 10am-3pm Monday to Saturday, offering both sit in and take away.

"The cafe offers an excellent selection of breakfast fare, light snacks, soup and sandwich platters, lunches, baked potatoes, hot meals, fish teas along a good selection of cakes and pastries to either sit in or take away.

"Browns Cafe offers an excellent opportunity to expand the business to offer evening meals."
