BUDDING photographers from two Inverclyde secondaries produced some sights to behold as they impressed judges with their images.

The Rotary Club of Gourock held its first Young Photographer Competition recently, with 19 students from local schools Clydeview Academy and St Columba's High taking part.

Entrants were asked to produce snaps of any subject shown in a 'different perspective'.

They submitted a stunning array of eye-catching work which had the judging panel agonising over who to give the prizes too.

In the end it was a clean sweep for Clydeview Academy, with Scott Renfrew taking the winner's prize, Louisa McWilliams the runner-up and Taylor Clifford in third place.

But such was the quality of entries, two commendations were awarded to Clydeview's Laird Dunsmore and Leigh Jeffers from St Columba's.

Rotarian Alex Murphy, who was head judge, said: "We had a very difficult task in selecting the winners as the entries were of a very high standard.

"In the end they were separated only by a very few points."

The inaugural competition proved so successful the Gourock Rotary intend to expand the contest.

Next year they plan to include all senior schools in Inverclyde.

The 2018 winners were presented with certificates by club members Norman Pettigrew and Boyd Thomson, who is president-elect.
